married to \u00c5ge Hansen Vik from (br.n. 1b) Atletveit, Ombo, but moved in earlier years to \u00d8ye in Hjelmeland, where they died childless.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Torger <\/strong>(1858-1870)<\/span><\/h2>\n

Torger died only 12 years old in 1870. It is told that he was running after the animals in the hills, when he was hit by a scree of stones; \"Bortrevet af a stenskred and strong forslaaet, however, he lived 24 hours with bevidsthet in the first 15 Hours,\" it says in church record. He lived 24 hours, unconscious the last 10 hours.<\/span>

\"My grandfather was Osten, the youngest of Johan's siblings. Osten was born in 1874 and came to America with his brother Torger in the 1890's. He spent some time working in a gold mine in Colorado and also spent some time in the Mayville area which is where he met my grandmother Bertha Bjelland who was born near Hjelmeland. I believe the other connection to the Mayville area was perhaps other Norwegians from the Erfjord and Hjelmeland area who moved there. Osten and Bertha married and moved to a farm near Berthold, North Dakota. Brother Torger ended up in another farm about 15 miles away; he had no children.<\/span><\/p>\n

Osten and Bertha had 8 children 6 who lived to be adults: Clara, Bill, Anna, Oscar, Elmer<\/a>, Lilly (they are all deceased). My father was Elmer who took over the farm from Osten and my siblings are Dennis, Sheila, and Keith. Keith still farms the land but does not live on the farm. Bernt took over Torger's farm near Tagus.\" (from Bryce Kilene, USA).<\/span><\/p>\n
